Traditional Millwrights Limited was founded by Neil Medcalf in 2002 and has more than 50 years combined experience repairing, restoring and maintaining historic wind and water mills.

Prior to starting his own business, Neil served his apprenticeship with the millwrights 'R Thompson & Sons of Alford, Lincolnshire', which was established in the 1870s. The apprenticeship provided considerable first-hand experience of the traditional methods used to repair and maintain wind and water mills. The skills required to build sails, dress stones and cog wheels were all learnt from people who had done the job many times before.

Traditional Millwrights Limited follow the SPAB's mill repair philosophy for the work that we do. Repairing what can be repaired and replacing what needs to be replaced.

The company undertakes a variety of work, from complete restoration of wind and water mills through to periodic maintenance and inspections. Clients include local authorities, English Heritage, Historic Scotland, The National Trust, heritage organisations and private individuals.
